My name is Scott Swinford and I am the Branch Manager for Hancock Mortgage Partners in Crown Point, IN.
In my “previous life,” I was a firefighter/paramedic with a private ambulance service, a volunteer fire department, a full-time municipal fire department and finally a busy emergency department. My focus was on saving lives, protecting property and educating others to do the same.
I know what the job is like; the long shifts that can be extended periods of boredom interspersed with minutes of chaos. What it feels like to leave a crying widow who just her husband of 50 years to see the crying mother te just helped deliver her first baby on the bathroom floor. How tough it is to crawl into a severely crushed car to start an IV with a flashlight in my mouth.
I don’t say this because I’m looking for praise, but because I understand what our American Heroes go through every day.
I firmly believe that my calling is to help our “local heroes” that protect us and keep our families safe. It is my way of giving back to the firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, doctors, nurses, police officers, veterans, active duty military, and teachers for their service to us. As a result, I have worked very hard to become one of the most knowledgeable local lenders that offer the VA loan program!

My goal since leaving that life over 11 years ago has been to empower my clients so that they understand how their mortgage fits into their short term and long term financial goals. As such, I still wake up in the morning with a sense of purpose and go to bed each night with the feeling of accomplishment.
My motto: I do as I say, I say as I do and if I mess up, I’ll fess up and do my best to make it right. No smoke and mirrors, just honest answers and advice that you can count on.
When you are ready to purchase your first home, your next home, or even refinance your existing home, I hope you will think of me. I’ve got your back so you can focus on what you’re best at – serving others!
